As the first and leading indigenous mining consultancy firm in Nigeria, Geocardinal Engineering Services Ltd recognizes the need to collaborate with the Federal Government of Nigeria in actualizing its vision to diversify the economy and revitalize the bitumen industry. In order to achieve this, we partnered with the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency (NGSA) to train drilling personnel engaged in the ongoing National Bitumen Project at Ogun State on Blow Out Prevention in their Bitumen Drilling Operations.
Blowout Prevention System on a drilling rig is the methodology for prevention of the uncontrolled catastrophic release of high-pressure fluids from subsurface formations. The function of the blowout prevention system is to control the movement of kick fluids that enters the wellbore during drilling. The main objective of the training involves understanding formation pressure and its effects, indicators, causes, and control of abnormal pressure during the bitumen drilling operation and the use of PPE and other safety and emergency measures on a drilling rig.
The training was a field-based practical centered on the various approaches in preventing blowout and fire management during bitumen drilling operations, understanding the dynamics of hazardous gases in bitumen drilling, proper handling of expensive drilling components, enhancing productivity during drilling operations, monitoring of mud weight, ensuring the safety of the crew in case of a blowout as well as safety and first aid measures during emergencies.
The workshop which took place at the Exploration Sites at Ososa and Ipara-Remo, Ogun State was successfully executed by our technical team led by the MD/CEO, Geocardinal Engineering Services Ltd- Engr. Jacob Titilope Adeyemo, FNSE.
