Based on the responsibility of prescribing and enforcing the standards of education and experience for personnel in the Extractive Industry, The Council of Nigerian Mining Engineers and Geoscientists (COMEG) recently collaborated with Geocardinal Engineering services Limited to organize a 7-day Training workshop aimed at improving the skills and knowledge of professionals and operators in the Mining sector on preparation of standard bankable mining feasibility study report.
The training involved a field-based exercise with active participation from the participants and group-based projects where the participants practiced what they had learnt based on the modules provided. The resource persons are professionals with vast experience in mining processes both within and outside the country. Amongst them are; Prof. Z. O. Opafunso: the first Professor of Mining Engineering in West Africa; Dr. O. S. Abdulraman: Vice President (Mines), Kwara state Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture; Drs. O. O. Ige and D. A Adedoyin who are Lecturers in the Department of Geology and Mineral Sciences, Faculty of Physical Science, University of Ilorin, Nigeria.
At the end of the training, participants were able to identify and understand the various opportunities in the Nigerian mining, understand the Nigerian financial systems and requirements as well as demonstrate the ability to prepare a standard bankable mining feasibility study report.
